Just 20 minutes ahead of the official opening of free agency, forward Jesper Fastand the Canes have agreed to a new two-year deal.

Including a slight increase in pay from his previous contract, #71 will now make $2.4 million per season (previously $2M), the trusty winger led Carolina with six goals during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After being acquired on the opening day of free agency last summer, Pacioretty played just five games in his tenure with Carolina.

The veteran goal scorer tore his Achilles tendon during offseason training last August and worked tirelessly to get back to action. However, just two weeks after his team debut in January, Pacioretty tore the same Achilles tendon again, ending his season.

Forward Mackenzie MacEachern is returning to the St. Louis Blues.

After being drafted by and spending six seasons with the organization prior to coming to Carolina, the 29-year-old has earned a two-year, one-way deal.

3:14 p.m.

The Vancouver Canucks

goaltender Zachary Sawchenko to a one-year, two-way contract.

25 years young, he played 41 games with the Canes' American Hockey League affiliate last season.

4:00 p.m.

During his press conference at PNC Arena, Don Waddell confirmed that the team is

with forward Michael Bunting.

A scrappy player and a pest to play against, the 27-year-old put up 23 goals in each of the last two seasons in Toronto.

In total, he produced 112 points in 161 games with the Maple Leafs.

4:32 p.m.

Carolina's contingent in the crease has been solidified.

The team will roll with the same three-headed monster as last season, announcing that they've inked goaltender Frederik Andersen to a two-year deal.

Andersen, 33, is 56-25-4 in two seasons with the Canes, posting the NHL's 10th-best save percentage (.915) since the start of the 2021-22 season.

A pair of defensemen from the system have both landed in Toronto.

Max Lajoie and William Lagesson, who both played the majority of this last season with Carolina's AHL affiliate, both received one-year, two-way deals from the Maple Leafs.

Lajoie was Chicago's captain this past season and appeared in eight games with the Canes over the last two seasons.

The 2022-23 season was Lagesson's first in the organization, and he did not appear at the NHL level.

With Dmitry Orlov joining the organization, Shayne Gostisbehere has found a new home in Detroit.

, "Ghost" played in 23 regular season games and 15 postseason bouts after being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes ahead of the 2023 trade deadline.

Acquired last summer from the Vegas Golden Knights along with forward Max Pacioretty, the right-handed defenseman produced three points in 17 games this past season.
