RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Jalen Chatfield to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Chatfield $750,000 at the NHL level and $225,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level.

"Jalen is a reliable defenseman who can kill penalties," said Waddell. "He's coming off his first NHL season and we're thrilled to add him to our organization."
Chatfield, 25, tallied one assist in 18 NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks last season. The 6'1", 187-pound defenseman has also skated in 142 career AHL games, recording 17 points (2g, 15a) with the Utica Comets from 2017-20. Prior to turning professional, Chatfield played 189 games with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League from 2014-17, earning 86 points (19g, 67a) and serving as an alternate captain during the 2016-17 season. The Ypsilanti, Mich., native skated in all four Memorial Cup games in 2017 as the Spitfires were crowned as Canadian Hockey League (CHL) champions.
