RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has promoted Eric Tulsky and Darren Yorke to Assistant General Managers and hired Aaron Schwartz as Director of Hockey Operations.

"Eric and Darren have earned this opportunity through their hard work and creativity in assisting player decisions and evaluation," said Waddell. "Aaron has a great deal of experience in hockey and we are excited to add his knowledge and relationships to our organization. We are confident in Eric, Darren and Aaron's abilities, and they will play a vital role in bringing a championship to Raleigh."
As assistant general manager, Tulsky will assist in all hockey-related matters, manage the team's pro scouting department, and oversee the team's hockey information department. Tulsky is entering his seventh season with the Hurricanes and previously served as the team's vice president of hockey management and strategy, providing and analyzing data to assist the hockey operations department and coaching staff. Tulsky has been publishing his advanced hockey statistical analysis since 2011, when he began writing for BroadstreetHockey.com. He also contributed to NHLNumbers.com prior to launching his own website through SBNation, Outnumbered. Tulsky has been a featured panelist for MIT's annual Sports Analytics Conference and his hockey analysis work has also been published in The Washington Post and fivethirtyeight.com. The Philadelphia, Pa., native, holds a B.A. in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from UC-Berkeley. He also conducted a two-year, post-doctoral study at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C., and worked in nanotechnology for 12 years. Tulsky's research has helped enable unique nanotechnology solutions to problems in DNA sequencing, solar energy, displays and energy storage, and he holds 13 U.S. patents.
Yorke will be involved in all player personnel decisions, oversee amateur scouting and player development, and will continue to be responsible for the team's draft. He is in his 12th season with the Hurricanes and previously served as the team's director of player personnel. Yorke first joined the organization in 2009 as video scout, using television broadcasts of professional and amateur games to assist management in personnel decisions and filing reports on players similar to the team's field scouts. Prior to being named director of player personnel, Yorke served as manager of scouting. A Milton, Ont., native, Yorke graduated with honors from Brock University in 2008 with a degree in sports management. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, he interned and worked for the Buffalo Sabres for two seasons. Yorke also spent one year with Canadian sports network TSN.
As director of hockey operations, Schwartz's responsibilities will include assisting in player contract negotiations, collective bargaining agreement/salary cap compliance, and other hockey-related matters. Schwartz has gained experience in hockey as a player, agent and attorney. He joins the Hurricanes from the Seiden Law Group in Chicago, Ill., where he served as an associate attorney for two years. Schwartz has previously worked in hockey operations with the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals and worked as an agent with Alterno Management in Stockholm, Sweden, for three years. Schwartz played three years of collegiate hockey at DePaul University before playing professionally for five seasons. Following his playing career, the Deerfield, Ill., native earned his law degree from UIC John Marshall Law School.
