RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has created a five-week outreach program in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) to recognize the efforts and sacrifices of health care workers during the COVID-19 health crisis. To thank these vital members of the Triangle community, the team will deliver professionally-prepared meals to local health care workers.

"The health care community has stepped up in a big way throughout this crisis," said Waddell. "We are proud to partner with Blue Cross NC to give these heroes the recognition they deserve."

Beginning on July 1, the Hurricanes and Blue Cross NC will deliver 1,000 meals to health care workers over a five-week span, created and packaged by Blue Cross NC's cafeteria vendor, Compass. Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour will assist with the first delivery, bringing individually-packaged meals to UNC Health Wakebrook behavioral health campus, located at 107 Sunnybrook Rd. in Raleigh, on July 1 at 11:30 a.m.

"Blue Cross NC is honored to work with the Carolina Hurricanes to show our appreciation to health care workers in the communities we call home," said Reagan Greene Pruitt, Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement at Blue Cross NC. "We value and respect the dedication of these health care professionals working tirelessly to protect the health and safety of all North Carolinians."
