Canes Re-Sign Smallman to One-Year Deal

RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has re-signed forward Spencer Smallman to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Smallman $750,000 at the NHL level and $75,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level.

"Spencer is a hard-nosed forward who is tough to play against," said Waddell. "We're thrilled to keep him in our organization."
Smallman, 24, registered two assists in six AHL games with Chicago last season, and added 12 points (6g, 6a) in eight ECHL games with Fort Wayne. The 6'1", 201-pound forward has tallied 21 points (3g, 18a) in 65 career AHL games with Charlotte and Chicago. Smallman has also recorded 27 points (9g, 18a) in 25 career ECHL games with Florida, Greenville and Fort Wayne. He played 293 games over five seasons with Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, earning 223 points (86g, 137a). The Summerside, P.E.I., native was drafted by the Hurricanes in the fifth round, 138th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft.
