Canes Re-Sign Spencer Smallman to One-Year Deal

RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has re-signed forward Spencer Smallman to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Smallman $735,000 at the NHL level or $70,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level.

"Spencer has continued to improve each season since turning pro," said Waddell. "He took another positive step in his development last season and we hope he can take another step forward next year."
Smallman, 24, recorded 13 points (3g, 10a) in 47 games with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) last season. The 6'1", 201-pound forward ranked fourth among Checkers rookies in assists and points. Smallman scored his first career AHL goal vs. Hartford on Dec. 17, 2019 and recorded a five-game point streak from Dec. 17-Dec. 28, 2019 (2g, 3a). He has registered 19 points (3g, 16a) in 59 career AHL games. The Summerside, P.E.I., native was drafted by the Hurricanes in the fifth round, 138th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.
