Kochetkov, 22, posted a 13-1-1 record, 2.09 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in 15 regular-season games with the Wolves. The 6'3", 205-pound goaltender was named the AHL's Rookie of the Month for March after starting his North American tenure with a 7-0-1 record and ultimately improved to 11-0-1 before suffering his only AHL regulation loss against Texas on April 13. Kochetkov registered a 3-0-0 record, 2.42 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in three regular-season games with Carolina, becoming the second goaltender in franchise history to win each of his first three NHL appearances. He added a 1-2 record, 3.89 goals-against average and .869 save percentage in four playoff games with the Hurricanes. The Kazan, Russia, native started the season with Nizhny Novgorod of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), posting a 10-10-2 record, 2.23 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and two shutouts in 23 appearances and finishing tied for sixth in the KHL in save percentage. Kochetkov was drafted by Carolina in the second round, 36th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft.
LaFontaine, 24, registered a 4-3-4 record, 2.89 goals-against average, .885 save percentage and one shutout in 13 regular-season appearances with Chicago. The 6'2", 204-pound netminder earned a 0-1-0 record, 7.20 goals-against average and .780 save percentage in two NHL games with Carolina during the regular season and served as the team's emergency backup goaltender during the playoffs. LaFontaine also made two ECHL appearances with Norfolk, posting a 1-0-1 record, 3.49 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. The Mississauga, Ont., native began the season at Minnesota, where he posted a 12-8-0 record, 2.69 goals-against average, .900 save percentage and one shutout in 20 NCAA games before signing a one-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes on Jan. 9. LaFontaine was selected by Carolina in the third round, 75th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft.
