RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Jake Bean and forward Valentin Zykov from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Bean, 20, is looking to make his NHL debut. The 6'1", 186-pound defenseman was selected by Carolina in the first round (13th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, and has posted 11 points (3g, 8a) in 21 games with the Checkers this season. He made his professional debut last season in Game 3 of Charlotte's second-round playoff series against Lehigh Valley on May 8. The Calgary, Alta., native skated in 57 Western Hockey League games with Calgary and Tri-City in 2017-18, registering 48 points (12g, 36a). In his WHL career, Bean tallied 196 points (49g, 147a) in 219 games for the Hitmen and Americans from 2014-18.
Zykov, 23, scored two goals in six games with the Checkers after being assigned on a conditioning stint on Nov. 13. Prior to his assignment, the St. Petersburg, Russia, native recorded three assists in 13 games with the Hurricanes. The 6'3", 207-pound forward has posted 11 points (4g, 7a) in 25 career NHL games and 104 points (58g, 46a) in 180 career AHL games with Charlotte and Ontario. Zykov was selected by Los Angeles in the second round (37th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft, and traded to the Hurricanes in exchange for Kris Versteeg on Feb. 28, 2016.
