RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Alex Lyon to the team's taxi squad from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) and placed forward Jordan Martinook on injured reserve.

Lyon, 29, has made one NHL appearance with Carolina in 2021-22, stopping 27 of 29 shots faced to earn a win in his Hurricanes debut against St. Louis on Nov. 13. He has registered a 7-7-2 record, 3.14 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in 23 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Carolina from 2018-21. The 6'1", 201-pound netminder has played 11 AHL games with the Wolves this season, posting a 9-1-1 record, 1.79 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and two shutouts. Among AHL goaltenders with at least seven games played, Lyon ranks second in goals-against average, tied for second in shutouts and tied for third in save percentage. He owns an 84-55-16 record, 2.68 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and eight shutouts in 160 career AHL games with Lehigh Valley and Chicago from 2016-21. Prior to turning professional, Lyon earned a 50-29-14 record, 1.88 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and 15 shutouts in 93 career NCAA games with Yale from 2013-16, where he was twice named ECAC Goaltender of the Year and was selected as a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker and Mike Richter awards in 2016. The Baudette, Minn., native also made 99 USHL appearances with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders and Omaha Lancers from 2011-13, posting a 52-37-4 record, 2.73 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and five shutouts.
Martinook, 29, has missed the team's last seven games due to a lower-body injury suffered against Ottawa on Dec. 2. He has recorded six points (1g, 5a) in 22 NHL games with Carolina in 2021-22 and ranks seventh among Hurricanes forwards with 28 hits. The 6'1", 204-pound forward has tallied 122 points (48g, 74a) in 440 career NHL games with Arizona and Carolina from 2014-21, including 57 points (22g, 35a) in 193 games with the Hurricanes since joining the team in 2018-19. Martinook was named an alternate captain ahead of the 2019-20 season and ranks third on the team with 389 hits over the past four seasons. The Brandon, Man., native was selected by Arizona in the second round, 58th overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft. Acquired by the Hurricanes from the Coyotes on May 3, 2018, along with a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft (Luke Henman) in exchange for Marcus Kruger and a third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft (Ty Emberson), Martinook signed a three-year extension with Carolina on July 28.
