Canes Sign Robidas To Entry-Level Contract

RALEIGH, NC. -Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Justin Robidas to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal will begin in the 2023-24 season and will pay Robidas $775,000 at the NHL level and $80,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for all three seasons. He will also receive a signing bonus of $150,000.

"Justin has produced offensively throughout his junior career, and he has played a key role for Quebec throughout the QMJHL playoffs and Memorial Cup this season," said Waddell. "We are excited to watch his development progress at the next level."

Robidas, 20, recorded 78 points (25g, 53a) in 63 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) games with Val-d'Or and Quebec this season, ranking tied for the league lead in shorthanded assists (6) and ninth in power-play assists (25). The 5'8", 176-pound forward has also earned 27 points (11g, 16a) in 18 postseason games, as the Remparts won the Gilles-Courteau Trophy as QMJHL champions and have clinched a berth in the Memorial Cup final to play for the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) title. Robidas has tallied 239 points (95g, 144a) in 223 career QMJHL games with Val-d'Or and Quebec since debuting with the Foreurs in 2019-20. Born in Plano, Texas, he represents Canada internationally and previously played for Team Canada White at the 2019 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge and captained Team Quebec to a gold medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Robidas was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round, 147th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft, and his father, Stephane, played 15 NHL seasons with Montreal, Dallas, Chicago, Anaheim and Toronto from 1999-2015.
