About Monday Night

After being shut out by the Canes in their previous two meetings this season, the defending Stanley Cup champions got on the board with a 4-2 win at PNC Arena on Monday. Jesper Fast scored his first two goals with the Canes, but Ondrej Palat scored a little over eight minutes into the third period to put the Bolts ahead, which snapped the Canes' six game point streak (5-0-1).

CAR Recap: Fast scores twice in loss to Lightning

"They took it to us in the first period. We were real fortunate to be ahead, but I give my guys a lot of credit. They realized it as a group. I think from that point on in the second and third periods, we were certainly right there with them," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "We probably got what we deserved. You can't play a 40-minute game in the NHL, and you certainly can't play it against the best team in the NHL."

News to Know

Teravainen Sidelined by Concussion: Teuvo Teravainen was diagnosed with a concussion,
Brind'Amour confirmed on Monday
. Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nikita Zadorov caught Teravainen with a heavy hit in the third period on Feb. 19, and the Canes' forward has missed two games since. Teravainen, who was heating up with seven points (2g, 5a) in his last four games, did not travel with the team on this road trip.
Mrazek Returns to Practice: Petr Mrazek joined the Canes at practice on Tuesday. While he was stickhandling and shooting the puck prior to the first whistle, Mrazek did not use his stick when taking shots during practice.
"Until he puts his stick in his hand, he's not really there," Brind'Amour said afterward. "He looks good on everything else, but he's still a ways away."

Numbers to Know

3: Jake Bean has recorded an assist in three straight games and has totaled five helpers in his last five games. He also recorded a game-high seven shots on goal on Monday.
6: The Canes are just the sixth team since 2000-01 to hold the defending Stanley Cup champions scoreless twice in a single season.
3-0-0: This marks the fourth of now nine back-to-back sets in the 2020-21 season for the Canes, who are 3-0-0 in the first game.
