About Last Night

Vincent Trocheck scored two goals in the first period and the Canes' power play struck twice in the second en route to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Trocheck finished the night with a team-high three points (2g, 1a), while Sebastian Aho and Martin Necas each notched a pair of helpers. James Reimer played more than 57 minutes in relief after Petr Mrazek left with an injury, and he made 10 saves on 11 shots to record his second win of the season.

Power play productive as Canes win third straight

"The effort, that's what's been really special. Everyone is just digging in, to a man. That's propelled us these last couple of games," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "The guys have buckled down and are getting it done."

News to Know

Injuries Impact Lineup: Both Mrazek and Max McCormick left in the first period of Saturday's game with upper-body injuries that sidelined them for the balance of the game and moving forward. Mrazek's injury "seems like it's better than it looked," according to Necas. Brind'Amour seemed to think the same. McCormick, however, is going to be out "a lot longer," the head coach said.
Reimer's workload, even though he essentially played the entire game on Saturday, wasn't too strenuous, so the Canes could opt to go back to him in net. Drew Shore could be the taxi squad recall for McCormick, unless the team opts to dress a seventh defenseman in Joakim Ryan.
Shutting the Door: The Canes have set a new franchise best mark for goals against in the first five games of the season with just seven. They've also allowed just 22.2 shots per game, best in the NHL.

Numbers to Know

.945: Mrazek and Reimer have stopped 104 of 110 shots faced through the first five games of the season for a combined 1.20 goals-against average and .945 save percentage.
11: Aho has recorded 11 points (4g, 7a) in nine career games against the Stars.
