Carolina Hurricanes All-Star defenseman Noah Hanifin has been diagnosed with a concussion, the team announced on Monday afternoon.

Hanifin left the third period of Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers and did not return, and he did not travel with the team to New York that night.
Hanifin is now in the concussion protocol and will remain sidelined indefinitely until he is medically cleared. The Hurricanes still have six healthy defensemen on the roster, as Klas Dahlbeck drew into the lineup in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Hanifin, 21, had played in each of the Hurricanes' first 71 games of the season before missing Sunday's contest. The American-born defenseman has logged a career-high eight goals this season and has equaled his career-high in points (29) from a season ago.
In a non-corresponding move, the Hurricanes
recalled forward Valentin Zykov
from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League on Monday afternoon. Zykov, 22, leads the AHL in goals (32) and power-play goals (16) and ranks ninth in the league in points (52) in 61 games this season.
