RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes play their first exhibition home game on Friday, welcoming the Florida Panthers to Lenovo Center.

Last Game

  • The Hurricanes opened their six-game 2024 preseason schedule with a 2-1 win over the Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday. Anttoni Honka and Aleksi Heimosalmi scored for the Hurricanes, with Heimosalmi’s goal coming with 45 seconds remaining in the third period. Tyson Jost, Jack Drury and Jackson Blake picked up assists. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 22 of 23 shots in net.

Leaning On Experience

  • While Tuesday's exhibition debut in Tampa featured a youth-focused lineup, 12 players on tonight's Canes roster have already appeared in regular-season contests for the team, including four of their top five scorers from last season.
  • Four of Carolina's returning defensemen from the 2023-24 campaign are expected to suit up tonight.

Veteran Rule

  • As a reminder, NHL teams must dress at least eight “veterans” in each preseason contest. “Veterans” are skaters who played 30 NHL games the previous season, goalies who dressed in 50 NHL games or played in 30 NHL games the previous year, any player who has played 100+ NHL games, or a current year first-round pick.

Fresh Faces

  • Seven players in tonight's lineup have not yet appeared in a regular-season game with the Carolina Hurricanes.
  • William Carrier, Jack Roslovic, Josiah Slavin, and Sean Walker each signed with Carolina as free agents this summer.
  • Noel Gunler, Ruslan Khazheyev, and Ryan Suzuki are draft picks of the organization, with varying levels of pro experience.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast was ruled out for the 2024-25 season in August after having neck surgery.
  • Defenseman Riley Stillman (lower-body injury) has worked in a no-contact sweater each day of training camp thus far.
  • Defenseman Scott Morrow (undisclosed) missed two practices last week, returned on Monday, but did not skate Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
