Last Time Out:The Canes suffered a disappointing result last night in Ottawa, falling 3-2 to the Senators. After a pair of defensive breakdowns resulted in goals for the Sens in the first, Carolina was able to crawl back into the contest with goals from defensemen Brett Pesce and Brent Burns. However, in the third, a controversial goaltender interference call allowed Ottawa to take the lead, ending Carolina's three-road trip without a win.
Metro Race Update:The Canes enter tonight's action just one point ahead of the New Jersey Devils for first place in the division. The Devils are also playing tonight, taking on the Buffalo Sabres. Both games are scheduled to get underway shortly after 7 p.m.
Lock It Up:With one point tonight, the Canes would guarantee themselves home ice in the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Stef's Back:Forward Stefan Noesen returned to the lineup on Monday after missing Saturday's game in Buffalo due to a lower-body injury. The power forward ranks tied for second with his seven power play goals.
Older & Wiser:Jordan Martinook and Stefan Noesen have now both published 30-point seasons for the first time in their NHL careers. They are just the fourth and fifth players, respectively, to publish their first seasons with such totals after turning 30 years of age.
In Net:Continuing their rotation, Antti Raanta is expected to be in net tonight after Frederik Andersen started Monday in Ottawa. Raanta suffered his first regulation loss since November 12
on Saturday in Buffalo
but is still 18-3-3 on the season.
From The Blue Line:Defensemen have combined to score 55 goals this season, setting a new franchise record. Brady Skjei leads the way with 18 and is now just one goal shy of setting a new single-season record.
Shooting For Three:Carolina is 44-5-5 when scoring three goals or more this season.
On The Other Side:Also having played last night, the Red Wings come to town after a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Dallas Stars. Dallas scored six times on 22 shots, with all six coming in the game's first 34 minutes. Ville Husso and Magnus Hellberg were on the hook for the goals, signaling that former Hurricane Alex Nedeljkovic could be in line to start against his former team tonight. "Ned" has won his last three appearances, including a 31-save win over Carolina on March 30, and a 43-save victory over Toronto on April 2.
