PREVIOUS MEETINGS:
THE QUICK HITS:
Last Time Out:A tight, grind-it-out-type game between the Canes and Flyers was decided with 3:50 to go in regulation, when Jordan Martinook tipped home the game-winning goal. Derek Stepan earned his 500th career point in his 800th NHL game in the affair, while Frederik Andersen made 28 saves in his return from injury.
In The Crease:With Andersen having started yesterday, it would make sense for Antti Raanta to be the projected starter today. Raanta has started and won both of his team's games against the Penguins this season. Making 31 and 24 stops respectively, the 32-year-old earned his 100th NHL victory in the first outing, which came in Pittsburgh. In the more recent outing, Raanta shut the door over the final 49:21, turning away all 14 stops faced during that stretch.
At Home On The Road:The Canes 18 (18-8-3) wins away from PNC Arena this season ranked tied for second in the NHL. Only Pittsburgh has more with their 19.
60 For Fishy:Aho's empty net goal yesterday made him the first Hurricanes player this season to reach 60 points. Only 23 players in the NHL have reached that mark thus far this year. The Finn also enters today on a four-game point streak.
Good Through The End:Martinook's game-winner and Aho's empty net goal moved the team's goal differential to +33 in the final frame of regulation this year. With that being the best in the NHL, Carolina has outscored their opponents 72-39 in the last 20 minutes of games.
The Best Is Yet To Come:Saturday's win over Philadelphia was the 41st win of the season for the team. Now with a record of 41-12-5, that is the most wins and points through 58 games in franchise history.
A Look At The Other Side:Pittsburgh has gone 1-1 in the eight days since their last meeting against the Canes, falling to Florida but then bouncing back against Vegas. They are 5-4-1 in their last ten games.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
More Milestones:
Steven Lorentz is two games shy of 100 for his career. Jordan Staal is four points shy of 600.
What Are We Wearing?:The team will be wearing their white sweaters today.
