THE QUICK HITS:
Last Time Out:With one minute to go in regulation Wednesday night, the Canes led the Panthers by a score of 2-1. Florida pulled their netminder and knotted the contest with 46.3 seconds remaining and then after winning the opening faceoff in overtime, Aaron Ekblad beat Andersen on a breakaway with the first and only shot of the extra frame. It was a tough loss to swallow for the group, who had a good start against the team that had had their number twice before already this season. With the victory Florida claimed the three-game season sweep of Carolina.
Got Nashville's Number:As the group turns the page to tonight, they do so with recent history on their side. In their last 17 meetings with the Predators, Carolina is 14-3-0. This does not include the six-game playoff series win in 2021.
Jersey Score:Wednesday night was Tony DeAngelo's 40th game as a Hurricane, recording his ninth goal with the team in the bout. The tally now gives him 39 points in 40 games with the team, the second most among any defenseman since the franchise's inception in 1979. Only Mark Howe, who published 47 in the 1980-1981 season, had more.
Fantastic Freddie:Despite taking the overtime loss against Florida, Frederik Andersen was strong enough to earn his club another point in another one of his outings. Thus far this year he has made 33 starts and he has earned points for his club in 27 appearances. He ranks second in the league in both save percentage (.928) and goals against average (2.08), as well as having a share of second with his 25 wins.
Slumps Happen:The Canes are currently in the midst of a 1-2-2 stretch. The last time they lost four of five games, they went 9-1 in their next ten.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Milestone Watch: Antti Raanta is one win shy of 100 in his NHL career. Derek Stepan is one point shy of 500 for his NHL career.
What Are We Wearing?:The team will be wearing their black sweaters tonight.
