TRACKING THE STORYLINES:
Former Rangers vs. Current Rangers:The long-awaited matchup finally takes place tonight, as six former Rangers now take on their former team. Antti Raanta, Brendan Smith, Derek Stepan, Tony DeAngelo, Jesper Fast and Brady Skjei have all played for New York within the last handful of years and will go head-to-head with some of their former teammates this evening.
Battle For The Top Spot:New York enters tonight's matchup atop the Metropolitan Division standings with their 54 points. Their two-point lead over the Canes also comes with the four more games they've played. This evening is the first of four times that the two clubs will meet the rest of the year, with the other three coming during the span of five weeks between March 20 and April 26.
400 For Fishy:Sebastian Aho is set to play in his 400th NHL game tonight. He will become just the fourth player from his 2015 draft class to reach the number.
Chipping In From The Back:After both DeAngelo and Jaccob Slavin recorded three points each Tuesday night in Boston, Canes defensemen have now combined for 36 points over the team's last nine games. Since December 16 the unit is averaging four points per night.
