Last Game...

  • Lightning star Nikita Kucherov recorded a hat trick on Friday, handing the Canes their first regulation loss in a season opener in seven years.
  • Despite the 4-1 loss, the Canes did not allow any of the goals at 5-on-5. Frederik Andersen was more than adequate, stopping 19/21 shots faced.

In Net...

  • With Andersen playing on Friday, there is a chance that Pyotr Kochetkov takes his turn in the scheduled rotation this evening. Kochetkov went 23-13-4 last season with a .911 save percentage, and was named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team in June.
  • Carolina's #52 played in and earned a win in two preseason games, allowing just one goal to the Tampa Bay Lightning in each outing.

Milestone Watch...

  • Sebastian Aho is slated to appear in his 600th NHL game tonight, becoming the 11th player in franchise history (3rd active player) to reach that benchmark.
  • Jesperi Kotkaniemi is set to skate in NHL game #400 tonight. He sits one point shy of 100 as a Hurricane and is three assists away from 100 in his career
  • Jordan Martinook is three points shy of 200 NHL points.
  • Martin Necas is three goals shy of 100 NHL/Hurricanes goals.
  • Dmitry Orlov is one point shy of 300 NHL points.

Carri On...

  • William Carrier recorded the only assist on Jordan Staal's goal vs. Tampa, marking his first point as a Hurricane in his first game with the club and his 50th career assist.

Hitting The Road...

  • Tonight's game is the Canes' final home game before they embark on a season-long six-game road trip from 10/18 to 10/28.
  • In 2023-24, the Canes posted a 25-23-3 record away from home, ranking tied for sixth in the league in road points percentage (.646%).
  • Carolina posted the top road power play percentage (30.8%), had the second-highest road penalty kill percentage (85.4%) and allowed the fewest shots against per game (27.17) last year.
  • With Rod Brind'Amour behind the bench (2018-19-present), the Canes have posted the second-highest road points percentage with .626 behind only Boston with .656.

On The Other Side...

  • New Jersey comes to town after being the first team to defeat Utah Hockey Club yesterday, 3-0.
  • Former Hurricane Stefan Noesen has been scorching to start the year, leading the team with six points.
  • Jake Allen played yesterday, so it feels likely that the Canes will see Jacob Markstrom between the pipes.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast was ruled out for the 2024-25 season in August after having neck surgery.
  • Defenseman Riley Stillman (lower-body injury) has worked in a no-contact sweater since training camp started on September 19.
  • Defenseman Joakim Ryan (undisclosed) has not practiced since September 30. Rod Brind'Amour said that he is battling an injury and that there's no need to push him through it this time of year.
  • Forward Brendan Lemieux (undisclosed) suffered an injury during the team's exhibition finale on October 5 and will be "out for a little while." The second-year Hurricane returned to practice on Sunday, October 13.
