THE QUICK HITS:
Last Time Out:For the second time in as many games the Canes allowed the first goal of the contest yet still found a way to win. Martin Necas recorded his second goal of the season to knot the score late in the second period and then with just 1:58 to go in regulation Sebastian Aho won it for Carolina. Antti Raanta was sound in net all evening, denying 18 out of 19 for his first win of the campaign.

Stay Hot, Marty:Necas' goal on Friday now gives him four points in two games to start the season, something that's only been topped twice in Whalers and Hurricanes history (Mark Howe and Mike Rogers, 5, 1980-1981). Following the victory in San Jose, Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour had the following to say about his #88.
"He's been great. Now he's just got to keep doing that. We knew that he had this capability. Now it's two games in and it's been a pretty impressive two games."
It Starts In Our End:Through two contests the Canes have allowed just two goals, giving them a tie for the league-low of 1.0 goals against per game. A key reason for that is them allowing an average of just 25.5 shots against per contest. The New Jersey Devils (23.5) are the only Eastern Conference team to have allowed fewer.
An Opportunity For Noesen:Friday afternoon it was announced that forward Ondrej Kase would be returning to Raleigh to be evaluated for a possible concussion. This opened the door for Stefan Noesen to enter the lineup, being that he was the only extra forward with the team. The former Shark made his presence felt against his old team, recording a game-high five shots on goal despite playing just 7:08. 2:18 of that time came on the power play, where he also directly slid in to Ondrej Kase's spot on the top unit.
On The Other Side:Seattle had their home opener spoiled on Saturday by Vegas, but just prior to that they had earned a commanding 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Rookie Matty Beniers, the second overall selection in the 2021 NHL Draft, has had an excellent start to his first full season, posting four points in the team's first three games. Former Avalanche and Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky is right there with him as well, tied for the team lead.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
What Are We Wearing?:The Canes will be wearing their white uniforms tonight.
AFTER TODAY:
