"We're thrilled to bring back the READvolution program for a third season," Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell said. "Literacy is key to success in the classroom, and we're excited to continue promoting reading in our community."
"If anyone knows about goals, it's the Carolina Hurricanes," said Wake County Public School System Superintendent Cathy Moore. "Not just those on the ice, but those we set for ourselves. Whether it be a winning season or reading every day, goal-setting is essential to success, and READvolution exemplifies this for our students in a fun and engaging way."
"We're looking forward to continuing the partnership with the Carolina Hurricanes," said Chatham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Derrick D. Jordan. "READvolution challenged our students to read even more."
"Early literacy is the essential foundation for student success," said Durham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga. "We've seen the Carolina Hurricanes succeed as a team by focusing on the fundamentals and igniting players' and fans' passion. We're excited that the Hurricanes are continuing to bring that same energy into our community to foster a love of reading."
The READvolution program requires 20 minutes of reading every day after school. Beginning on Sept. 30, students will be able to login online to track their reading times and books read. Students who meet the goal of 800 minutes read over the eight-week period will receive two free tickets to a Hurricanes home game. Schools that reach the 2,020-book goal qualify for the chance to attend the Cool School Field Trip at PNC Arena. Last season, the READvolution program resulted in over 10 million minutes of reading and nearly 270,000 books read. This season, the program runs from Sept. 30 through Nov. 22.
