Becoming just the 10th Finnish player in NHL history to reach the milestone, the goal also gave Aho sole possession of the most shorthanded points in franchise history with 22.
While the goal gave Carolina the game's first blood for the 31st time in their 47 games this season, Dallas was able to turn the tide of things before the end of the opening frame.
Just 2:13 after Aho's 18th tally of the season, Wyatt Johnston was able to beat Dylan Coghlan following an offensive zone faceoff for the Stars. Then, fewer than five minutes later, Jason Robertson banked one off of Andersen and in to give Dallas their first lead of the night.
With the home team taking their advantage back to the locker room, when the clubs returned to the ice for the second period of play it was Antti Raanta leading Carolina out. Minutes later it was shared that Andersen would not return due to an upper-body injury.
As Raanta did his best to settle in, the middle frame was one highlighted by physicality - including a Brett Pesce fight and a thunderous hit from Calvin de Haan on Robertson.
And while the Canes entered the period trailing, they would not leave it with the same status. Early in the frame, Jordan Staal won an offensive zone faceoff back to Brent Burns, allowing #8 to step in and rifle home his eighth of the season.
Moving the contest to the third period tied at 2-2, the two teams would battle evenly for most of it. While the Canes would catch a break with a puck hitting a post behind Raanta, the group forced Jake Oettinger to stand tall in net for Dallas.
After a pair of crucial stops from Raanta inside the final two minutes, Carolina moved onto their league-leading 16th overtime of the season.
In the three-on-three all it took was one shot, coming from Martin Necas.
1:34 into the extra frame Necas looped away from his defender in the blocker side circle, cut back to the middle, and had just enough space to fire, notching his second overtime winner against the Stars this season.
