Svechnikov bested Kevin Fiala of the Los Angeles Kings in the finals, after recording the best time from the pool of five to start the night as well. Skating third in the order, the 22-year-old first posted a time of 13.757 seconds, topping Cale Makar (COL), Chandler Stephenson (VGK), Dylan Larkin (DET), and Fiala (LA).
"I feel like I've got no chance, to be honest, but I'm going to try my best," Svechnikov said after his first lap, humbly understating his abilities.
Then, later on in the night, he proved himself wrong.
"I'm super excited to win this," Carolina's #37 then shared after recording the quickest lap of the night. "There was no strategy, to be honest, I just tried to go as fast as I can."
Svechnikov becomes the third Canes player to win the Fastest Skater, joining Sami Kapanen, who won in both 2000 and 2002.
It also marks the third consecutive All-Star Skills that Carolina has won an event. Jaccob Slavin was the champion of the Accuracy Shooting in 2020 and then was followed by Sebastian Aho in the same competition last year in Las Vegas.
