The Panthers goalie made a jaw-dropping, diving stick save to deny the Dallas Stars of a goal in the third period of Florida's win Tuesday.
The Stars had just tied the game at 2 on a goal by Joe Pavelski and were trying to take the lead midway through the third period. Driedger stopped Jamie Benn's initial shot, but the puck hit Panthers defenseman Anton Stralman's skate and trickled toward the empty net.
But Driedger lunged back and dragged the puck off the goal line keeping the game tied and wowing his teammates and coach in the process.
"I was right there in front, and in the back of my head I thought that went in for sure," said Panthers forward Frank Vatrano. "Watching the replay, he made a great, desperate save to keep that out. That was a huge for us. A turning point."
"A miraculous save," said Florida coach Joel Quenneville. "That was by the thinnest of margins."
It was the best of Driedger's 24 saves, though he even admitted there was some luck involved.
"[The puck] kind of pinballed around in front of me a little bit, ended up hitting a skate and was going straight in," Driedger said. "You just go straight into instinct mode, and fortunately just was able to catch it with my blade."
The stop enabled the Panthers to force overtime, where Vatrano scored the game-winning, power-play goal at 3:09 of the extra session that snapped Florida's three-game losing streak.
