Nashville Predators

Roman Josi is not expected to play against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; MSG, BSSO, ESPN+, SN NOW) after sustaining an undisclosed injury in the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
The defenseman left the game against Winnipeg in the first period after playing 11 shifts totaling 10:06 of ice time. He did not return and the Predators said they would have an update on his status prior to playing the Rangers.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday morning that Josi did not make the trip with the team to New York.
Josi leads the Predators with 59 points (18 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games this season.
The Predators are expected to recall a defenseman from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League prior to the game. It could be Jordan Gross, who is Milwaukee's leading scorer among defenseman with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 45 games. Gross also has three goals in 10 games with the Predators this season.
The Predators are also missing defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Alexandre Carrier, who are both day to day with upper-body injuries. It's possible one of them could return against the Rangers. -- Dan Rosen

Washington Capitals

Darcy Kuemper did not play against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday because of an upper-body-injury.
The goalie left practice early Saturday because of the injury and his status was not clear. Charlie Lindgren started Sunday for Washington.
Capitals coach Peter Laviolette wouldn't say Saturday if Kuemper's injury occurred during practice or if it was an ailment that was bothering him previously. Kuemper allowed four goals on 21 shots in a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
"There's always things going on," Laviolette said. "There's always things that you're dealing with. Obviously, he was fine last night, and he came off here. So, we're examining that right now for upper body."
Zach Fucale was recalled from Hershey of the American Hockey League to back up Lindgren. The 27-year-old goalie is tied for sixth in the AHL with 19 wins (19-10-2).
Alex Ovechkin was in the lineup Sunday after the forward took a maintenance day and did not practice Saturday. He missed Washington's 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday with a lower-body injury, but returned to play the next two games.
Nick Jensen missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury. Laviolette said the defenseman is day to day. -- Tom Gulitti
