16 HIGHLIGHTS FROM TUESDAY’S 16-GAME FROZEN FRENZY

The second NHL Frozen Frenzy concluded with a plethora of notes from each of the 32 teams in action. All #NHLStats from Frozen Frenzy can be found in Live Updates, including the following 16 highlights from Tuesday’s thrilling 16-game slate:

1. Tuesday featured nearly 100 combined goals, with the final tally of the 16-game day scored almost 7.5 hours after the first. Ten road teams picked up wins – the only days in NHL history to feature more road victories are Nov. 24, 2023 (13), Dec. 29, 2018 (11), Jan. 25, 2018 (11) and Jan. 9, 2010 (11).

2. Brandon Hagel (3-1—4) scored Tampa Bay's second natural hat trick of the season (also Nikita Kucherov on Oct. 11) before adding an assist to cap the middle frame and matched the club record for points in a period – a distinction he shares with seven other players – as the Lightning ended their night in New Jersey with eight tallies and tied their franchise record for goals in a road game (6x; last: Nov. 24, 2023 at CAR).

3. Tomas Hertl (2-2—4) matched a single-game career with four points (also Jan. 17, 2022, Jan. 22, 2019 & Oct. 8, 2013) as the Golden Knights generated their fourth win of the season. Hertl, Hagel and Anthony Cirelli (0-4—4) were the three players with four points Tuesday.

4. Nino Niederreiter, Colin Miller and Kyle Connor collected second-period goals as the Jets extended their franchise-record season-opening winning streak to six games. Winnipeg has earned four of its victories in come-from-behind fashion (also Oct. 11, Oct. 13 & Oct. 20).

5. Kirill Kaprizov (0-2—2) and Mats Zuccarello (1-1—2) were two of five players to register multiple points for the Wild (4-0-2, 10 points) as the club has posted a season-opening point streak of six games for the fifth time in franchise history. The others: 2007-08 (7-0-1), 2008-09 (6-0-1), 2001-02 (3-0-4) and 2006-07 (6-0-0).

6. Owen Power collected three assists, including the primary helper on Tage Thompson’s game-winning goal. Thompson’s tally clocked in at 94.30 mph – the second-hardest goal scored by any player this season, behind J.T. Miller (94.86 mph on Oct. 9).

7. Nazem Kadri tied the game with 42.9 seconds remaining in regulation and Justin Kirkland scored the shootout winner as the Flames (5-0-1, 11 points) extended their season-opening point streak to six games. Calgary’s run is the second longest in franchise history behind a 12-game streak by the Atlanta Flames in 1978-79 (10-0-2, 22 points).

8. The Rangers kept their high-powered offense going as they skated to a 7-4 win and extended their season-opening point streak to six games (5-0-1) – their longest in franchise history. New York, which leads the League in goals per game (5.17), became the second team in the past 30 years to score four or more goals in each of their first six games of a season (also FLA: 7 GP in 2021-22).

9. Nathan MacKinnon (1-0—1) and Cale Makar (0-2—2) found the score sheet once again as the Avalanche rebounded from a 0-4-0 start to the season with their third straight win. MacKinnon (3-9—12 in 7 GP) and Makar (2-12—14 in 7 GP) each extended their season-opening point streak to seven games, with Makar now leading the League outright in scoring.

10. Connor McDavid (2-0—2) helped Edmonton build a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes, but Carolina scored twice in the third period and set the stage for Sebastian Aho (1-1—2) in overtime. The Hurricanes, who joined the Blues and Flames as the third team with a multi-goal, third-period comeback win this season, watched Aho register his 56th career game-winning goal and the second-latest tally in overtime by the club since 2015-16 (when 3-on-3 was introduced) behind Noah Hanifin on Dec. 2, 2017 (4:58).

11. Justin Danforth (1-2—3) factored on half of his team’s goals as the Blue Jackets scored six times against the Maple Leafs for the second time in as many meetings and third time in four matchups. Columbus, who joined Pittsburgh (3x) and Winnipeg (3x) as the third team to score six or more goals three times this season, are the only club with three six-goal outings against Toronto since 2023-24.

12. Mikael Granlund helped the Sharks draw even in the third period, but Leo Carlsson responded 41 seconds later to give the Ducks a lead they would not relinquish. Carlsson, who netted his first career game-winning goal earlier this season (Oct. 16), joined Cam Fowler (3 in 2010-11) and Stanislav Chistov (2 in 2002-03) as the third teenager in Ducks history with multiple winners in a single campaign. Fowler is also the only Ducks teenager with three game-winning tallies in a career.

13. Nic Dowd and Andrew Mangiapane mustered shorthanded goals during the first period to help the Capitals clip the Flyers in the first half of their home-and-home back-to-back set. Washington scored two shorthanded goals in a period for the eighth time in franchise history (last: P3 on March 23, 2000).

14. Vancouver earned its third straight win while Kevin Lankinen extended his season-opening point streak to four games (3-0-1). The only other goaltenders to start their Canucks tenure with a four-game point streak, at any point of a season or otherwise, are Spencer Martin (6 GP in 2021-22), Jason LaBarbera (4 GP in 2008-09), Johan Hedberg (4 GP in 2003-04) and Bob Essensa (4 GP in 2000-01).

15. Juuse Saros stopped all 33 shots he faced and Roman Josi collected a pair of assists for his 166th career multi-point game as the Predators picked up their first victory of the season. Josi tied Kris Letang for the fourth-most multi-point games among active defensemen.

16. Total attendance across the 16 games during NHL Frozen Frenzy was 263,748, with the Rangers-Canadiens contest at Bell Centre having the largest crowd (21,105).
