DeKeyser had a hole-in-one in Thursday's annual Red Wings golf outing, which officially kicks off Detroit's training camp in Traverse City. With his hole-in-one, DeKeyser was awarded a two-year lease on a brand-new Porsche.
"I got a hole-in one, No. 17, a par 3," DeKeyser told reporters on Friday at Centre Ice Arena. "It was a fun day. I was going right at the stick. It was a pretty good shot. I didn't know distance-wise if it was going to be there or not.
"So, it landed like 12 feet behind the hole and started spinning back towards the cup and it missed the closest to the pin stick, you know how you write whoever had it last, missed that by like an inch and then the guys were like, 'It's rolling back, it's rolling back!' and then it just disappeared in the cup.
"I just flung my club to the side and kind of did a few laps around the tee box. I golf a decent amount in the summer but that was my first hole-in-one, so it was pretty fun."
DeKeyser used a 9-iron on the 152-yard hole; he thinks he'll be driving around town in a Porsche Boxster, but he isn't sure of the particulars. He'll wait until he gets back to Detroit to find out all the details.
During Detroit's development camp in July, Wings' goalie coach Jeff Salajko also had a hole-in-one and received nothing. When DeKeyser was asked whether he would share his new sports car with Salajko, he jokingly replied, "I told him he did it on the wrong day. He should have waited a little bit. So, that was his fault."
As if winning a two-year lease on a Porsche wasn't enough, DeKeyser also won the longest drive competition, which got him a new driver.
"I'm hit or miss at golf, so I guess it was a good day," DeKeyser said.
