"It felt a lot closer," Joe Veleno said. "We just fell short by one or two goals, depending on how you factor their empty-netter. But we stuck in there. Obviously they're a playoff team and have some really high-end skill."
Veleno added that he was proud of how the Red Wings stood up for one another against Edmonton, citing the importance of team cohesion when facing adversity.
"When the time comes, there's always gonna be moments in the game where guys are gonna get hit or retaliate," Veleno said. "There's gonna be scrums, so we just gotta stick up for each other and be there. I think that shows a lot of character and sends a message to other teams that when you mess with us, all of us are gonna come in. That's the mentality we wanna have."
