DALLAS --David Perron scored the game-tying goal in the second period of his 1,000th career NHL game, but the Detroit Red Wings fell, 3-2, in overtime to the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center.

Captain Dylan Larkin opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season at 9:48 of the first period, but the Stars tied the game, 1-1, shortly before the first intermission. Dallas took its first lead more than halfway through the middle frame, but Perron late-period tally leveled the score at 2-2. After a scoreless third, the Stars netted the game-winner with 31 seconds remaining in overtime.
"Tonight was a good response from the Florida effort," Larkin said. "It's a good team over there. We gotta manage the puck, get an extra point and be a little better in overtime."
Goalie Ville Husso made 30 saves for the Red Wings, who concluded a four-game road trip with a 2-1-1 record. With the loss, Detroit dropped to 13-8-6 (32 points) on the season, while Dallas moved to 16-7-5.
"For the most part, a good effort start to finish," head coach Derek Lalonde said. "Earned a point. You leave with a little bad taste in your mouth that it felt like we could have taken the two points and got a little more out of it."
NEXT UP: The Red Wings will return home to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena.

QUOTABLE

Lalonde on the club's overall effort after Thursday's game at Florida
"Excellent response, and that's what you look for. We've been pretty consistent with our game especially as of late. The one Florida game was an outlier where we hadn't played that poorly in a while."
Perron on his ninth goal of the season
"Just a lucky bounce. I'm going to the net, not trying to do anything and I feel it go off my stick and into the net somehow. It gave me a little more energy after that."
Larkin on Perron's game-tying tally
"It was a huge goal for us. I think we heard all about it when it went in. It's good for our team and good for him in his 1,000th game. Pretty special, so we're all pretty happy for him."
Larkin on Husso's performance
"It was a good goalie battle. We had tons of chances there in the first, some in the second and didn't generate enough in the third. But Huss stood tall."
