Our first Next Wave Report of the 2024-25 season is here. In this edition of Next Wave learn more about what our prospects have been up to and how they've been making strides in recent weeks.

PROSPECT OF THE WEEK:

  • Yaroslav Askarov (San Jose, AHL) was named Prospect of the Week, presented by Kaiser Permanente, after consecutive shutout wins with the 1st coming in his Barracuda debut (Oct. 12) and the 2nd in the home opener (Oct. 19). He is the first goalie in Cuda history to log a shutout in a season opener.

BARRACUDA

  • Luca Cagnoni logged his first professional goal, a powerplay marker, on Oct. 19 against Iowa. Cagnoni has now logged a point in three of his first four contests with the Barracuda, including his first multi-point game on Oct. 20 against Iowa.
  • Kasper Halttunen made his AHL debut and notched two goals, both powerplay markers, against the Ontario Reign, Oct. 12
  • Filip Bystedt has tallied a point in each of his first four games with the Barracuda this season. Bystedt is T-1st among the team in scoring and has 12 points in 12 career AHL games.

PROSPECT NOTABLES – NORTH AMERICA

  • Nolan Burke (Wichita, ECHL) recorded his first goal in a Thunder uniform in the second game of a doubleheader at Kansas City Mavericks, Oct. 19
  • Jérémie Bucheler (Wichita, ECHL) made his ECHL debut and was credited the primary assist on Wichita’s first goal of the night in the contest against Kansas City, Oct. 18
  • Alex Young (Adirondack, ECHL) posted a game-high three-point game (1g, 2a) in a 6-3 victory over the Norfork Admirals on Oct. 19. It was his best points total in a game at the ECHL level
  • Reese Laubach (Penn State, Big 10) has started his season collecting a point in two of his first three games with Penn State, including a game-high three-point game (2g, 1a) at the NCAA level, Oct. 6
  • Eric Pohlkamp (Denver, HE) collected his first point (assist) of the season with Denver in the 4-1 victory over Univ. of Alaska-Anchorage (Oct. 6). He ranks T-4th among NCAA defensemen in the plus-minus category (+7)
  • Cam Lund (Northeastern, HE) found the back of the net in back-to-back games played (Oct. 18-19) at Denver. Lund leads his club in shots on goal (13)
  • Joey Muldowney (UConn, HE) is T-1st among UConn defensemen in assists (3) through five games on the year. He logged a two-assist night on Oct. 5 against Colgate.
  • Brandon Svoboda (Boston, HE) collected his first goal in the NCAA on Oct. 18 in the 4-2 victory over the UConn Huskies.
  • Nate Misskey (Victoria, WHL) leads Victoria Royals defensemen in goals (4) and tied for second in assists (4) across six games played. Misskey was named an alternate captain for the second consecutive season with the Royals.
  • Sam Dickinson (London, OHL) logged a four-game point streak (4g, 3a) in his first four games of the season with the London Knights, including his first career hat-trick on Oct. 11 in the 5-4 victory against the Barrie Colts. Ranks T-1st in the OHL in powerplay markers (5)
  • Colton Roberts (Vancouver, WHL) tallied an assist in three-straight games (0g, 5a) from Oct. 4-8, including two multi-point efforts in that span. Roberts ranks T-6th among WHL U-19 defensemen in assists (6) on the year.
  • Carson Wetsch (Calgary, WHL) has notched a goal in three-straight games from Oct 10-19. Wetsch is in first full season as team captain with the Calgary Hitmen.
  • David Klee (Muskegon, USHL) is currently riding a four-game point streak (3g, 2a). He found the back of the net in three-straight games from Oct. 11-18, collecting a plus-minus rating of +1 in each contest.
  • Michael Fisher (Penticton, BCHL) has logged an assist in four of his first nine games. Fisher is T-1st among Penticton Vees defensemen in assists (6)

PROSPECT NOTABLES – INTERNATIONAL

  • Yegor Rimashevsky (Dynamo Moskva, KHL) ranks third among Dynamo Moskva forwards in assists (5) and T-4th in points (7) across 14 games played.
  • Axel Landén (IK Oskarshamn, HockeyAllsvenskan) leads IK Oskarshamn defensemen in plus-minus rating category (+6)
  • Leo Sahlin Wallenius (Nybro Vikings , HockeyAllsvenskan) logged an assist in consecutive games played (0g, 2a) from Oct. 9-11. He leads HockeyAllsvenskan U-19 defense-men in points (3) and assists (3).
  • Yaroslav Korostelyov (HK Sochi, KHL) has begun the season with SKA-1946 St. Petersburg with a 3-1-0-0 record and a .902 SV% across six games.
