RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes made a slew of roster moves on Thursday afternoon, involving four players.
At 2 p.m., the team placed Tony DeAngelo, Brendan Lemieux, and Antti Raanta on waivers, maximizing their flexibility ahead of Friday afternoon's trade deadline.
For the next 24 hours, all 31 other NHL clubs will have the opportunity to claim all three of their players with their existing contracts.
DeAngelo, 28, is on an expiring contract, making $1.6M AAV. He has totaled three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 27 games this season.
Lemieux, 27, is also set to be an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at season's end. Carrying an AAV of $800k, has he provided two goals and one assist for three points in 23 games.
Raanta, 34, heads to waivers for a second time this season. Clearing in December and playing in a pair of games with the Chicago Wolves (AHL), he, like DeAngelo and Lemieux, will be a UFA this summer. 12-7-2 with a 2.99 goals against average (GAA) and an .899 save percentage (SV%), the veteran netminder was activated from injured reserve (IR) on Wednesday. He last played on February 8.
Should all three clear and be loaned, Don Waddell and the front office will have just shy of $9M to work with before tomorrow's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
