Canes Make Free Agency Splashes via Trades

This time last week many Canes fans entered the NHL's first day of free agency filled with uncertainty. Would the team find a way to bring back Nino Niederreiter and Vincent Trocheck? Who would be brought into the mix?
Instead, General Manager & President Don Waddell and the front office made two home run trades that immediately put a bulk of concerns to rest - acquiring Brent Burns from the San Jose Sharks and Max Pacioretty from the Vegas Golden Knights.
A right-handed defenseman that can log minutes and play on special teams? Check.
A
proven goal scorer that is known to contribute on the power play
? Check.
Sprinkle in
some of the signings that the team did make
as well and it's safe to say that Carolina has the league on notice once again.

Burns Wastes No Time

A mere 90 minutes after the trade was announced Burns was on Zoom with North Carolina media for the first time. Ignore the fact that he had an RV that had just carried his family from Ontario to Texas to unpack.
Five days later he was in Raleigh for the first time, clamoring to get to work with his new organization. The man is on a mission. Rod Brind'Amour has taken notice.
"I know he's really excited, giving it another shot," the head coach said of
Burns coming to Raleigh to chase a Stanley Cup with the Canes
. "I don't want to say a last shot, but we know he can't play forever. So I think he's excited that we're a good fit for him as well."

The Return Of Development Camp

For the first time since 2019, the team was able to host prospects and invitees, allowing both the players to learn more about the organization and the organization to learn more about the players.
Defenseman Scott Morrow was a head-turner, scoring the only two goals during the culminating four-on-four scrimmage on Thursday. Morrow stood out so much that Waddell was asked about him during his press availability following the Burns trade, sharing that he anticipates the 2021 second round draft pick will turn pro following the 2022-23 season.

The 2022-23 regular season schedule is officially out and so is the first batch of promotional nights for Canes home games.
Individual game tickets for the upcoming year will go on sale Wednesday, August 10.
