"We just want to remain competitive, right? We've got to have certain streams of revenue that put us in a position to compete. We all want to win, so this is very helpful," Dundon began. "Now we've got to do something good with it."
The Canes' owner said that there's potential for a temporary sportsbook to be at the front of PNC Arena after wagering is made live, and long-term the box office could become relocated to make way for a more permanent fixture.
Speaking of PNC Arena, on Tuesday afternoon Canes General Manager Don Waddell
shared that the team was working on a 20-year lease agreement with PNC
, and today Dundon offered his thoughts.
"We're working hard at it. It feels like we've got some good momentum and it feels like most of the pieces are in place," he shared of the arena's naming rights. "Now, everybody that gets a say has to say yes or no... We're definitely engaged and eager to get something done, but it's not without its challenges."
Before the interview concluded, Dundon closed by saying that extending some of the team's pending unrestricted free agents or soon-to-be unrestricted free agents, is his top priority.
"We have a lot of good players and we have a pretty good team. I know we didn't win, but you don't want to go backward," the sole owner said. "For the first few years, I wanted to keep making changes to get better because I thought there were easy ways to do it. Now, we're at the point where it's really hard. It's easier to get worse than better right now."
