1.6.23 Necas Mailbag

RALEIGH, NC. -After etching a new career-high in goals earlier this week, Martin Necas is now on his way to setting a new career-best for points.
But before we get there, he was kind enough to answer some of your questions.

(Note: Some questions have been edited for clarity.)
How does it feel having one of your best seasons with the Canes? Have you done anything different this year compared to last season for the extra boost of confidence? - @OneTrueZach / @DashaBoss5 / @DylanSports89
I've always known that I've had this in me, I just haven't been able to prove it at the NHL level yet.
It's finally started to show this year and obviously, I'm really happy about it. It's been important for our start and I want to help the team as much as I can.
The focus is just always on the next game and how I can get better.
What did you do over the offseason to improve the mental side of his game and how has that made a difference for him this year? - @ArcherForCanes / @Erich\_K8
A lot of it was just changing how I approach the game and my preparation.
A big thing for me has just been staying in the game. If I have a bad shift? Okay, I've got another one in a couple of minutes. You're always trying to get better, but mistakes do happen. How do you get past it? Stuff like that.
How did you develop into such a fast and effective skater? With your spins, it looks as if you may have had some figure skating training. - @ohmymymimi
I did a lot of skating when I was young. Any time I had free time I would work with guys from an academy back in Czechia.
The focus was always on improving my edges and I've felt like they've been good to start. Then it became adding power. Put those two together and it kind of exploded. You can always get better at your edges and your crossovers.
It's something I've continued to work on my whole career and I think it's very important. Weekends, summer, all the time. It's always just been about getting better.
What do you love most about playing in Carolina? - @svechaho
The fan base is really good. I felt like it improved so much last year. I'm always excited to play in front of our fans.
As we've gotten better we have more and more fans, and that makes it really fun to play here. Everyone around the league says that it's one of the loudest rinks in the NHL.
I really like our locker room of guys, the staff and the city, too. It's a smaller city, obviously, it's not Chicago or New York, which makes it low-key and a really nice place to live.
How special is it for him to see Czechia continue to grow in international hockey? - @JWS2253
It's important. It's great to see them doing well.
We haven't been as good in recent years, but it seems like these past few we've been doing better. You can see the progress that they've made, especially the team at the World Juniors. I loved that they were playing really good hockey and I thought their defense was really active.
I hope in the future I'm going to get to play for the national team and some of them could be my teammates.

DAL@CAR: Svechnikov, Necas team up for OT winner

Who was your favorite player growing up? - @GlepHockey
Jaromir Jagr. That's an easy one.
If you played defense, which Canes player would you want to paired with? - @djrando29
Well, I'm right-handed, so either Jaccob Slavin or Brady Skjei. I'm pretty sure I would be a more offensive-minded defenseman, so I would need someone to cover for me.
How is dog father life going? - @senturboika / @ahonecas
I love it. It's the little things for me. If I have a bad day, it doesn't matter. I come home and it always makes me happy.

1.7.23 Necas Dog

Favorite game day food? - @allyrd842
Eggs for breakfast, always. Then for lunch, a salad with a lot of veggies and spaghetti with sauce and chicken.
Favorite TV series? - @Jacobs4858
I don't watch a lot of TV, but if I had to give you a favorite, either Money Heistor The Blacklist.
