NEWS & NOTES

Special Special Teams:Carolina's man advantage entered the series a big question mark after producing the league's second-lowest success rate over the final month of the regular season. That narrative was spun completely in the other direction inside the first four minutes of play Monday. Sebastian Aho and then later Stefan Noesen both found twine on the man advantage and the penalty kill went 4/4, proving to be two leading forces on the way to victory.
Well, That's Welcomed:The Canes had not scored multiple goals on the man-advantage in any of their last 21 regular season games (3/7-4/13), and they accomplished the feat just twice in 14 playoff contests last season, finishing 7-for-54 (13.0%) on the man-advantage in the postseason.
Home Ice Advantage:With a win over the Islanders in Game 1, the Canes improved to 40-25 as the home team in the playoffs since 1998, and their .615 win percentage ranks third among all NHL teams over that span, trailing only Chicago and Detroit.

In Net:Antti Raanta was strong on Monday night, but because the team has alternated goalies every game since the start of April, Rod Brind'Amour was asked on Tuesday if he would be sticking with that plan. He said "possibly," noting that Raanta was good, but the veteran netminder hasn't played many games in a row throughout the season and they'll have to be mindful of his usage going forward. Andersen has not started a playoff game since the "Bubble" Playoffs of 2020 when he was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
From The Blue Line:One of Carolina's biggest strengths all season long was the scoring from their defenseman, as the group posted a franchise-record 59 goals. Brady Skjei and Brent Burns led the way with 18 goals each, finishing tied for third in goals by an NHL defenseman this season, trailing only Erik Karlson (25) and Dougie Hamilton (22).
Shooting For Three:Carolina went 46-5-5 when scoring three goals or more during the regular season.
