NEWS & NOTES

Last Time Out:The Canes held Philadelphia off the scoreboard Thursday night on home ice, but Saturday it was a role reversal against the Vegas Golden Knights. Jonathan Quick stopped all 33 sent his way, improving to 3-0 since joining his new club. Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on 23 shots, moving to 16-7 on the season.
Moving On:Saturday was just the third time this season that Carolina was held scoreless. The team is 1-0-1 in the game after being shut out this season,
beating Edmonton by a score of 7-2 on November 10
and
losing in overtime to Boston, 3-2 on November 25
.
Talk To You Then:Carolina will not hold a morning skate today. Any information regarding tonight's lineup will come from Rod Brind'Amour at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Offense vs. Defense: Tonight's bout pits one of the best offensive teams in the league against one of the best defensive clubs in the NHL. Since January 1, the Devils are averaging an Eastern Conference-best 3.79 goals-per-game, while Carolina is allowing just 2.50 goals against per game, second in the East, only behind Boston.
"PK" Time:After Frederik Andersen started last night's contest for Carolina, Pyotr Kochetkov appears in line to start tonight for the Canes. Kochetkov
recorded a 19-save shutout Thursday against the Flyers
, his first game back in the NHL after an 11-3-1 stint with the Chicago Wolves (AHL).
The Other PK:Although it was only one opportunity on Saturday night, Carolina held Vegas 0-for-1 on the power play. It was the 19th time in the last 24 games that Tim Gleason's unit held their opposition scoreless on the man advantage. The Canes have now not allowed a power play goal in their last 10 games.
Normally A Good Thing:The Canes are 7-1-1 in the second half of their back-to-back sets this season.

Puljujarvi Is In The Mix:10 days after being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers, Jesse Puljujarvi finally played his first game as a Hurricane on Saturday. Skating 12:47, the right-handed winger largely worked alongside Paul Stastny and Stefan Noesen, but did take some shifts alongside Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis while Andrei Svechnikov was being tended to in the Carolina dressing room during the second period.
Get On Them Early:The Canes have scored first in a league-leading 41 games this season. They're 33-4-4 when they score first, tied with the Bruins for the most wins in the NHL when striking first.
The Impact Of A Ghost: Since Shayne Gostisbehere made his team debut last Friday, the Canes power play is 9/16.
On The Other Side:Like Carolina, New Jersey also played last night. However, the Devils took care of business in Montreal. Since January 1, only Boston has a better record than New Jersey, who is 20-5-4. Jack Hughes continues to blossom into his superstar status, producing 76 points in 61 games. Former Hurricane Dougie Hamilton leads the club's blue line with his 62 points in 65 games.
