Last Time Out

  • Things got off to a fast start on Sunday, as both teams scored on their first shot on goal. It set the tone for what was a busy opening period, including what would go on to be the difference in the contest - two power play goals for New York.
  • The Rangers had a perfect performance on special teams in the game as a whole, going 2/2 on the man advantage and 5/5 on the penalty kill.
  • Carolina made it close during the third period, but an Artemi Panarin two-on-one tally served as the game-winner in a 4-3 final.

Getting Off To A Better Start

  • The Canes believe that their best opportunity to tie the series this evening begins with a better start.
  • A rare blown coverage in the defensive end allowed New York to get the scoring started and then penalties caused them trouble before they could even get back to the dressing room for the first intermission.
  • Look for them to try and exercise more discipline to start tonight's contest.

Weaving Through Traffic

  • In addition to their excellent work on special teams, New York also did an outstanding job of staying in the shooting lane on Sunday.
  • Blocking 28 shots, they held the Canes to 25 shots, a significant step down from the average of 33.8 that they produced in Round 1.
  • Several Carolina players mentioned at Monday's practice that their agenda for tonight is to get more shots through, while also using traffic to try and take away Igor Shesterkin's vision.

In Net

  • Frederik Andersen has been the team's workhorse throughout the playoffs but took the loss on Sunday, allowing four goals on 23 shots.
  • The first three goals allowed certainly can't be placed as his fault, as they came following a blown defensive coverage by a forward and then two quick ones on the power play.
  • Andersen was back in his same net at Monday's practice, perhaps indicating it will be his turn again tonight.

On The Other Side

  • The Rangers big dogs led the way on Sunday, as Mika Zibanejad, Vincent Trocheck, and Chris Kreider all had multiple points in the victory.
  • Each player in the team's top six had at least one point, while the bottom six combined for zero.
  • What the Rangers' depth did bring to the table was physicality though, as Will Cuylle, Barclay Goodrow, and Matt Rempe all combined for 13 hits.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast suffered an upper-body injury in the team's regular season finale on Tuesday, April 16. On Thursday, April 25, Rod Brind'Amour said that he is likely out for the entire postseason.
  • Defenseman Brett Pesce suffered a lower-body injury during Round 1, Game 2. Brind'Amour said he's not counting on #22 being available this series, but he remains hopeful he may be able to get in at some point. He did not travel with the team, so he will not be an option for the first two games of the series.

What Are We Wearing?

  • The team will be wearing their black sweaters for all home games during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and white for all road games.
