5.22.23 Recap

SUNRISE, FL. -The Carolina Hurricanes were held scoreless on Monday night, failing to beat Florida Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky in a 1-0 defeat.

The Story

With the series shifting to Florida for the first time, the Canes entered the evening in search of offense after being able to beat the Panthers' netminder just three times in essentially 10 periods of play.
Despite showing the same lines that were utilized Saturday in Raleigh at morning skate, Rod Brind'Amour and staff opted to shuffle three of the four combinations for tonight's warmups.
The new trios showed some life early on, given a few opportunities to obtain the game's first goal. Florida was not particularly sharp off the hop, but their netminder was there to set the tone for what would be a perfect evening.
Despite Frederik Andersen matching Bobrovsky's efforts and moving the game to the second scoreless, a middle frame man advantage would change that for the home club.
Just eight seconds into a Brady Skjei slashing minor, Sam Reinhart capitalized for the Cats.
And that would be all for the evening's scoring.
Carolina outshot Florida 25-7 over the final 40 minutes of play, but could not find a way to legally get one by the 34-year-old Russian netminder.

They Said It

Jordan Staalon the team's frustration level following the result...
"It's obviously high. We've got to find a way to put the puck in the back of the net. If we start with one win here and we continue to play like that, we'll get a bounce and we'll move on from there. It was right there again for us. We'll take another stab at it, take Game 4 and go from there."
Jordan Martinookdescribing what the message is now that the team's season is on the line Wednesday...
"Get one (win). It's no different than tonight. We wanted to get this one tonight. If we can get one and go back home, we know what we can do in our building. Obviously we didn't do it the first two games, but that building gives us a lot of juice. Get the one (win) here, our next game. If we come out with the same effort, we're gonna give ourselves a great chance at it. Every guy in this room, I know what kind of character everyone has. We're going to be coming out guns blazing."
Rod Brind'Amourafter the loss...
"We can't do much more. We like how we're playing, clearly. We've got to find a way to put one in. Defensively, we've given up nothing, really. They've got one of the most potent offenses in the league and if you would have told me that you'd be holding them to 20 shots per night, you'd be pretty happy. It's just weird. We're creating offense. We hit a couple posts tonight. It's there for us. We just have to find a way for us to put it in... We've got to find a way to break through and give ourselves a chance to get back in this."
