RALEIGH, NC. -For just the third time this season the Carolina Hurricanes were blanked, falling to the Vegas Golden Knights by a score of 4-0 on Saturday.

The Story

Entering as winners of their last four games, the Canes had a chance to earn revenge against Vegas, the team they'd most recently lost to.
Just 10 days after falling to them at T-Mobile Arena, Rod Brind'Amour and crew were hoping to begin their home-road back-to-back on the right foot. Instead, the Golden Knights had other plans.
Coming out of the gate with an early push, Jonathan Marchessault was able to put one through the five-hole of Frederik Andersen just 4:03 in.
Forcing Carolina to play from behind, the remainder of their first period contained an adequate pushback, but nothing that was able to beat Jonathan Quick. Setting the tone for what would be a solid night for him, the visitors took their one-goal advantage into the first break.
In the second, they doubled it.
After the Canes weren't able to do much with their first and only power play of the night, the home team's inability to create threatening opportunities continued on at five-on-five. Producing just two high-danger chances* at even strength in the second period, Vegas took advantage of a mishandled puck in Carolina's end to move their lead to 2-0.
Proving to be the lone goal of the middle stanza, the third period was no kinder to the home club.
Although they'd outshoot their opponent 11-6 to close out the contest, Quick was up to par on all 11. He'd get two more goals of support to wrap up the offense, putting a bow on his second shutout of the season and first as a member of the Pacific Division's leaders.

They Said It

Rod Brind'Amourgiving his thoughts on the defeat...
"They're a good team. They hunker down in front and we knew that coming in. I thought we had a really good first period, actually, with our chances. We just didn't bury them and they did. That got us behind the eight ball. In the second period we weren't very good, but we didn't give up much. Just one bad bounce and it was a breakaway. Then we were down two. We had a good third. We pushed, we just couldn't get one by them."
Jordan Staaloffering his perspective on the loss...
"Our second period I thought we were just a little too flat. In the third we took over, but when you're down two in this league it's never easy, especially against one of the top teams in the league. There was enough chances to win the game, so we can't dwell on that. Their goalie played well. We have a big game tomorrow."
Jesse Puljujarvion if he feels he can be a fit for this team after playing in a game with the club...
"I think so. I'm a good skater and these guys want everyone to play fast, skate really hard, go to the net and score. I think I'm a good fit there. I'll try to be a really good player for this team and help these guys get those big wins."
