RALEIGH, NC. -The Hockey Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2023 Wednesday afternoon, with seven individuals receiving the call.
One of them was former Carolina Hurricane Tom Barrasso, who spent a brief portion of his storied career with the franchise.
The netminder of 19 NHL seasons won both the Calder Memorial Trophy and Vezina Trophy (1983-84) in his first season in the league, and also the William M. Jennings Award for the 1984-85 season.
Playing 726 of his 777 career games with either the Buffalo Sabres or Pittsburgh Penguins, Barrasso then signed with the Canes during the summer of 2001.

Playing in 34 games with the team, Jim Rutherford and staff dealt him to the Toronto Maple Leafs at that season's trade deadline.
In total, Barrasso finished his career with a league record of 369-277-86 and a .892 save percentage.
After finishing his playing career in 2003, the Boston-born product broke into the coaching world with the Canes for the 2007-08 season. First serving as a Goaltending Coach before becoming an Assistant Coach, Barrasso was with the team until the 2011-12 season.
Coaching still to this day, he now leads Asiago of the IceHL in Italy.
Barrasso is joined by Ken Hitchcock (builder), Pierre Lacroix (builder), Henrik Lundqvist, Caroline Ouellette, Pierre Turgeon, and Mike Vernon in the Class of 2023.
