CANES LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK VS. PANTHERS
12:00 a.m.
It's only the first week of November, but the Carolina Hurricanes recognize the challenge in front of them.
Winless in their last four games (0-2-2), the Hurricanes have slid to 4-5-3 in the standings and rank last in the Metropolitan Division with 11 points in 12 games.
"I think mentally we're fine, but there is some frustration," head coach Bill Peters said after a Monday morning practice in Raleigh. "We need to play better. That's the bottom line. We're capable of playing better, and we need to play better."
The Canes will look to get back in the win column when the Florida Panthers make their first of two visits to PNC Arena this season. The Panthers enter tonight's game also winless in their last four games (0-2-2). They've allowed 23 goals in that stretch - nearly a six goal per game clip - which could be a boon to the Canes' ailing offense.
"We need to finish, and we need to score. We haven't scored very much, and our power play hasn't been as dangerous as we'd like. If we get some offensive production, it would go a long way," Peters said. "I think guys are starting to press now. You can see it. We use frustration as a word and it weighs you down a little bit."
The Canes are coming off a disappointing two-game road trip out west, in which they brought home just one of a possible four points. The Canes will now play seven of their next 10 games at home, where they've posted an underwhelming 1-2-2 record (4 points) so far this season.
